As March comes to a close and April has just begun, we’re back for
another round of our Top 10 Android Games of the Week. This weeks list
includes three games fans have been anxiously awaiting, a few Zombies,
gladiatorial combat, and some good old fashioned people smuggling. Yup,
it’s a great week to be an Android gamer. Without further ado, we
proudly present our picks for the Top 10 Android Games of the Week April
1st, 2012…
Com2uS dropped a game that sports fans have been waiting for earlier
this week with the release of Homerun Battle 2 for Android. If you
played the original game dubbed Homerun Battle 3D you’ll know exactly
what to expect from the sequel except part 2 is bigger, badder, and
better in every way. If you dig the long ball, and crushing peoples
hopes with one swing of the bat you can grab Homerun Battle 2 for free.
Gameloft finally delivered on a game that people have been waiting
for in the form of Gangstar Rio: City of Saints. The latest game in
their “Gangstar” lineup puts you on the mean streets or Brazil and gives
you all the GTA style action you can handle. The game looks great, and
plays just like the other Gangstar games; if you’re a fan of the series
you’ll definitely want to get this one. You can pickup Gangstar Rio:
City of Saints for $6.99 on Google Play.
Snuggle Truck is a new Android game from Owlchemy Labs that puts you into the role of a Coyote
driver that’s in charge of taking folks across the border. You’re armed
with an old pickup truck and your wits as you take on rugged terrain
and try to make it to the finish line with all your passengers. The game
has unlimited replay value with its user created levels, and it’s a
whole lotta’ fun to play. You can pick up Smuggle Truck or its fuzzy
counterparts “Snuggle” Truck on Google Play for $3.99.
It’s been a great couple of weeks to be a Zombie fan, especially when
you get cool new games like Shane Reaction Zombieland. Shane Reaction
is a Zombie shootem’ up from ArtBit games that puts you to work
defending a small patch of land against hordes of relentless zombies.
All that stands between you and the undead is a little fence, and you’ll
have to keep it repaired and stay alive while blasting away at the
Zombie hordes. If you’re a Zombie fan there’s little doubt you’ll want
to pick this one up and you can find it for free on Google Play.
Temple Run is a game that most folks have heard of from its iOS days
and from the recent rash of copycats that hit Google play. Well, the
OFFICIAL version finally came out earlier this week, and it’s just as
much fun as advertised. You’ll run for your life as you try to escape
the temple and demon monkeys chasing you. This little runner looks
great, and will definitely put your reflexes to the test. You can find
Imangi Studios Temple Run for free on Google Play.
Swords and Sandals is a new Gladiator game from 3rd Sense
that’ drops you in the arena and puts you on the path to glory. It’s a
turn-based strategy game that lets you deck out your gladiator in all
kinds of gear as you battle your way to victory and try to win your
freedom. There is a free version of Swords and Sandals you can try that
gives you a few tournaments while the full version gives you everything
for only $0.99 cents.
Like awesome quick-play games with a retro feel? If so look no
further than Fill the Gap from Tournesol. Fill the Gap is a line
clearing game in the vein of Tetris, but it has a style and gameplay all
its own. You can check out our full review of Fill the Gap or head on
over to Google Play and pick it up for free.
Hybris is a new side scrolling adventure game from Drowning Zebra
that lets you hack & slash your way through 48 gorgeous 3D levels.
Hybris plays like an old-school game, but the backdrops are anything
retro as you’ll quickly find out. There are lots of weapons to upgrade
and plenty of Magic to go around for those of you that enjoy casting a
few spells. We’ll have more on this little gem later in the week, until
then you can grab it on Google Play for free.
Minibash is a quirky looking new Android fighting game from Nabi
Studios. This 2D fighter lets you take the battle online as you try and
knock your opponents block off in some very colorful ways. I couldn’t
get the game to run on ICS so I was unable to play it, but it looks to
be a good one to check out. You can pick up Minibash on Google Play for
free.
Mysterville: Detective Story is a new hidden-object game from
Nevosoft makers of Dream Sleuth. Their latest hidden object adventure
takes you through a mysterious town that seems to have lost all its cats
and your job is to uncover the mystery and bring back the felines.
There’s a free version of Mysteryville you can try that gives you 2
locations while the full version gives you all 21 for only $2.99.
Welcome to our new column Android Gaming Weekly, where we recap all the new releases and highlights every Wednesday. We post small bits throughout the week related to Android games, but readers have requested a condensed summary that makes it easier to keep up with all the latest news. Read on for this week’s best in Android gaming.
Battlefield coming to Android tablets
Early this week on the NVIDIA Tegra Zone blog, I read an article with Electronic Arts talking about a tablet version of Battlefield 3 coming to Android. The article has now been pulled down, so maybe the jumped the gun on this. EA Mobile has been increasing their efforts on Android games, so it’s not surprising to hear that more titles are on the way. Keep an eye out for more info soon. Update: A reader pointed out that the Android game might have been canned already. Battlefield 3: Aftershock was released for iOS, but the game was pulled down after people complained about it. According to Vox Games, EA has “decided to remove Battlefield 3: Aftershock from the App Store and are currently re-evaluating the app in response to the consumer feedback we’ve received.”
Gangstar Rio now available in Google Play Store
This one has been a long time coming, but Gameloft finally released Gangstar Rio for Android. We have been kind of annoyed with all the freemium apps from Gameloft, so it’s nice to see a paid title again. This crime-based game runs $6.99, but it offers over 60 varied missions to complete, which is hours worth of gameplay. It also supports the Galaxy Nexus, so I’m downloading it right now!
Gameloft announced last week that they would be releasing a mobile game based on the upcoming movie Men in Black 3. The movie debuts May 25th, and the game should be available around that time.
“Gameloft is ecstatic to have the chance to team with Sony Pictures Consumer Products in working with such a successful franchise as Men in Black on the Men in Black 3 mobile game,” said Karine Kaiser VP Marketing and Licensing for Gameloft. “We see this as a great opportunity to provide a new and immersive way to engage with the films’ iconic characters and distinctive universe.”
You never know what kind of game you will get from a movie license, but Gameloft did a pretty good job with The Adventures of Tintin.
The King of Fighters briefly appears in Google Play Store
The King of Fighters, a classic fighting series from SNK Playmore, briefly appeared in the Google Play Store this week with a price of $4.99. Old-school gamers were excited to see the release, but it’s no longer available. When it was still listed, the game only worked on the Xperia Play, Xperia Arc HD, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Hopefully the game comes back soon with support for more devices. If SNK uploads it with the same package name, you should be able to grab it from the link below, when it’s available.
This week developer MobileBits expanded their open beta of SoulCraft to include more devices. The game was previously available as a Tegra exclusive, but it now works on a wide variety of devices (including the Galaxy Nexus). I tested out an early beta a month ago and grew board with it, but they have continued to update it with new features during this open beta period. Check out SoulCraftGame.com for more details.
Sega serves up Virtua Tennis Challenge for Xperia Play
This week Sega released Virtua Tennis Challenge for $4.99, but it’s only available on the Xperia Play. That’s too bad because this game makes tennis look awesome and the average score from early reviews is 4.8. Sega has been releasing more titles for Android, so we hope Virtua Tennis supports additional devices soon.
This week someone sent in a tip for a new game that sounded so weird I just had to share it. Patient Zero by EgonDev describes itself as a “virtual pandemic simulator where you get to infect real players.” Infections get transferred by players coming within proximity of each other in the real world and other players infected with your virus will carry it and infect more players. The game only has 5,000 installs, but it’s got an average review score of 4.4 so you might find some enjoyment with it.
Watching the teaser video might give you a seizure, but we love fast-paced racing games and Flashout 3D looks to deliver the goods. The game promises gorgeous visuals, an interactive equalizer (music affects graphics), powerful weapons, dozens of levels, and online multiplayer mode to challenge your friends. Look for the game to arrive sometime in Q2.
Battleloot Adventure now available Android
Are you a fan of RPGs? Battleloot Adventure is coming soon to Android for free, so you might want take note. This turn-based RPG is already available on iOS, but the developer just let us know it’s arriving in the Google Play Store next month. The game features 8 big headed characters, 10 maps, 60+ quests, and 200+ pieces of gear. Update: The game is now live in Google Play Store.
Trial Extreme 2: I never played the original, but this sequel is awesome! Trial Extreme 2 places you on a dirt bike where you must negotiate hundreds of obstacles including ramps, jumbo tires, rocks, planks and more. It starts off easy, but the levels get increasingly hard and I promise you will fail a lot. There are over 36 levels, so I keep coming back trying to finish them off. The paid version is well worth the $1.99 asking price, but there is a free version available if you want to try it out at no cost.
Temple Run: I know it’s been around on iOS for a long time, but this game already has me addicted. The controls are stupid simple (swipe up, down, left, and right), but there is something about the quick gameplay that keeps me coming back to beet my high score. It truly is a game that every should enjoy, at least for a couple minutes.

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Shogun Rise Of The Renegades Brings "Bullet Hell" To Android With Hours Of Flying Bullets, Sheer Chaos
Welcome
to bullet hell, population you. Most likely, population 0 within a few
minutes of the start, because this game is tough. Really tough. At least
it was for me, and I played it for the majority of my flight from the
U.S. to Barcelona for MWC. The fact that you don't have checkpoints in
the middle of each level makes it much-much harder to complete, but your
victories are that much sweeter. If you get any.
The demo of this
highly addictive and extremely well done game, which Romain Guy called
his favorite Android game of all time, contains one level, and the full version contains 4 levels. Believe me when I say it though, those 4 levels will take you a while.

micro -- down in the meat -- where the mites crawl and the germs ooze
and the spark of consciousness leaps between synapses. You are BZRK.

guarded ship alone. I was captured as an intruder and locked into a
single room on board of the ship. Your mission is only to escape from
the room by opening the door. However, to do this, you'll need to gather
some items and use those items in solving puzzles. The rules are very
